Extraterrestrial Origin Of Necklace Beads – Ancient Egypt

The culture, the civilization, the apparels, the life practices – each of these facets associated with the Egyptians have welcomed enough speculation, allure and excitement. The reminiscence of history associated with them has been excavated, researched and analyzed time and again. Every time it has managed to suffice rather enhance the interest of historians, researchers and readers.

Here is an account of the jewelry worn by them.

Research done on this piece of necklace obtained from an excavation in 1911, has confirmed it to be made from space rock! Amazing! Isn’t it!

Here is a summary of the research:

  • The Researchers associated with the University College London’s Petrie Museum executed detailed analysis of the necklace utilizing gamma rays.
  • They concluded that the beads which were originally made of iron were fabricated utilizing fragments of meteorites.
  • The analysis also indicated for the assessment pertaining to the process of formation of beads with the process of smithing and rolling.
  • The process of smithing and rolling involves hammering the rock many numbers of times so that it can be flattened and rolled to bead shaped tubes.

How did the researchers come to the conclusion that the beads could have been made of meteorite?

The Egyptologists which belonged to the Open University first scanned beads which were found in a pre dynastic cemetery. This cemetery was in close vicinity of the village of el-Gerzeh. The process utilized for scanning was scanning electron microscopy and computed topography:

  • The researchers found that there was immense nickel content, suggesting that its mother metal was a meteorite.
  • Also the metal consisted of a different crystalline structure known as Widmanstatten pattern. It is this structure which is specific of iron meteorites.
  • They found areas where the weathered surface had fallen apart.

It was then that the exact level of nickel and phosphorus was found out by the researchers from UCL’s Petrie Museum of Egyptian Archaeology by utilizing the non-invasive neutrons and gamma rays in the Egyptian beads.

Professor Thilo Rehren stated that beads were fabricated by ‘multiple cycles of hammering’. He also stated that the material analyzed consisted of cobalt and germanium. These trace elements resembles exactly with the level of trace element which could only be possible in meteoritic iron.

This image shows a series of scans taken of the iron bead that unlocked the mystery surrounding the presence of iron among the ancient Egyptians. It also poses exciting questions about the way the cosmos influenced their religion

The most fascinating aspect about the discovery is the fact that the analysis brings you close to the fact that divine characteristics have been associate to be with the meteorite. As in accordance with Joyce Tyldesley, an Egyptologist, University of Manchester, UK-‘The sky was very important to the ancient Egyptians’.

Is this hypothesis accepted by all?

Well, the hypothesis was challenged in the 1980s. The academics were of the notion that the worldwide examples of iron, which was initially thought to be of meteoritic origin, were actually the result of several attempts of smelting.

In accordance with Philip Withers, Professor of Materials Science, The University of Manchester-‘Meteorites have a unique micro structural and chemical fingerprint because they cooled incredibly slowly as they travelled through space’.

Hence, the implication of meteorite iron is profound for the ancient Egyptians.
