Is it possible that our planet has been inhabited by unknown civilisations much more earlier than recorded history states? Some researchers believe there are many evidence of intelligent ancient civilisations dated back to hundreds of thousands years ago can be found in different places of the world.
For instance, a new review of research suggests veiled beneath the Persian Gulf, a once-fertile landmass may have supported some of the earliest humans outside Africa some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago. At its peak, the floodplain now below the Gulf would have been about the size of Great Britain, and then shrank as water began to flood the area. Then, about 8,000 years ago, the land would have been swallowed up by the Indian Ocean, the review scientist said. It means the Persian Gulf may have housed one of the earliest human populations.
Another example of really old civilisations can be found in Africa. Groundbreaking discovery has been made in an area of South Africa, about 150 miles inland, west of the port of Maputo. According to research it is the remains of a huge metropolis that measures around 1500 square miles. Scientists suggest this ancient city is part of even larger community with about 10,000 sure miles and appears to have been constructed 160,000 to 200,000 years B.C.
The excavations unearthed thousands of ancient gold mines in surrounding area which points to a vanished civilisation that could have lived and dug for gold here in the distant past. The site is just about 150 miles from an excellent port where maritime trade could have helped to support such a large population.
When these ruins first were encountered by explorers, it was assumed they were cattle corals made by indigenous people in the past. After ruins were studied from air with help of modern satellite images, it became obvious that this was a well planned community, developed by a highly evolved civilization. Researchers suggest they have found the complicated network of roads close to those found in the Inca settlements in Peru.
Only one question remains nobody can answer – how could all this be achieved by humans 200,000 years ago?
Another prehistorical civilisation may be hidden in the Amazon rainforest. Recent day researching made by archeologists revealing possible evidence that before Columbus’s arrival, the region was dotted with towns and perhaps even cities. This theory is hotly debated by scientists mainly because huge swaths of the 6-million-square-kilometer rainforest remain unstudied.
Analyzing location with help of Google Earth and environmental data from surrounding area allowed to discover 200 geometric earthworks spanning a distance greater than 155 miles (250 kilometers). It is believed that hundreds of circles, squares, and other geometric shapes once hidden by forest hint at a previously unknown ancient society that flourished in the Amazon.
Preliminary excavations at one of the sites in 2008 revealed that some of the earthworks were surrounded by low mounds containing domestic ceramics, charcoal, grinding-stone fragments, and other evidence of habitation. Who and why built the structures and what functions they served? This question remains in history.
