Ankh: The Spirit Of Ancient Egypt In Aztec Culture

Ankh: The Spirit Of Ancient Egypt In Aztec Culture

The Ankh is an ancient Egyptian Hieroglyphic symbol and is a triliteral sign. It is the abbreviation of three sounds, ‘A’, ‘N’, and ‘Kh’. The Hieroglyphs are sometimes misleading as they not necessarily have the same meaning as they are pictorially represented. Hieroglyphics often spelled out words by sound, which means that sometimes a symbol is read not as a contextual bit of knowledge, but as part of a word.

What Is The Ankh Supposed To Be?

A controversy still exists around the Ankh. Some consider it as a bouquet of flowers, some consider it a buckle strap tied around the ankle and some regard it as a simple drawing of both male and female genitalia. During the reign of Amenhotep IV, also known as Akhenaton – a New Kingdom monarch and ruled during the mid 1300s, the Ankh became very popular. His wife and son in law, held the Ankh, or what it represented, in great esteem.

One of the most beautiful depictions of an Ankh was found in the burial artifacts of King Tutankhamen in the form of a mirror and a remarkable candleholder found in Tutankhamen’s tomb, an Ankh with two arms outstretched from it to hold a candle. During The Summer of Love, the Ankh made a huge resurgence of popularity. It became a symbol of the counterculture.

The Ankh And Energy

This passion for life imbued in the ancient Egyptians a great love for mysticism and different supernatural powers which was hidden in different symbols and signs. Ankh was occupying very important place in symbols system because of its meaning. Symbol of eternal life. The gods are often seen holding an ankh to someone’s lips this is considered to be an offering of “The Breath of Life”. The breath you will need in the afterlife.

It is a recognition of the powerful beauty of the gift of life, like blooming flowers, temporary but vibrant in colors and aromas, alive and glorious in the moment and meant to be appreciated in the now.

Ankh – The Connection Between Egyptians And Aztecs?

Apparently the ruins of a mysterious Aztec temple bears a strange and striking resemblance to Egypt’s ankh cross and is aligned with an Egyptian-like stone pyramid at the same archaeological site. Since both of the civilisations flourished on the opposite sides of the Atlantic, the archeologists doubt any connection.

However, the Aztecs and the Egyptians were parallel civilisations in many ways for example, both cultures built pyramids, both used solar symbolism, and both believed in life after death. Both the cultures used Tau cross symbol to signify the forces. The Egyptians put a loop on the symbol but the Aztecs did not.

Ankh was a symbol of life itself, furthermore it represented eternal life.

The cross in this spiritual interpretation represented death, according to Egyptian belief  ankh was the key to unraveling the mysteries of life and death.

This belief was similar as the Aztecs. The T-shaped doorway or window appears as a common architectural motif in stone masonry across Mesoamerica like the ones found at Chaco Canyon in northern New Mexico and Mesa Verde in southwestern Colorado.

Donnelly, in his classical book, Atlantis: the Antediluvian World, claims that the tau was an important icon signifying “hidden wisdom” for Mexicans as well as for Peruvians, Egyptians, Phoenicians, and Chaldeans. Similar drawings in the Egyptian and Aztec cultures incorporating the Tau can be seen.

A.E. Waite, the designer of the Rider-Waite tarot deck, in his book The Pictorial Key to the Tarot, described the Hanged Man as the man who suddenly recognizes or “resurrects” his higher Self and higher nature.

The Ankh Cross on the surface of Mars

An image taken by NASA rovers on the surface of Mars shows what appears to be an object eerily resembling the ancient Egyptian Ankh Cross.

In the past, Mars anomaly hunters have found Pyramids, domes, walls, and even ‘alien creatures’ in the countless images sent back by NASA rovers from the red planet.

However, the Ankh Cross ‘apparently’ found on Mars takes Martian anomalies to a whole other level. In spite of all alleged discoveries may be not real, we still may suggest it could be traces of a lost civilization that once upon a time existed on red planet.
