The battle between Mac and PC has been on for years already. This holiday season, that battle gets a new front: Microsoft’s first-ever desktop PC, the Surface Studio, is going up against Apple’s refreshed MacBook Pro line, which sport the new Touch Bar controls. Here are the major differences between the two to make your choice easier:
1.Apple goes for design
Apple does pay a great deal of attention to the design of its products, it is all about the details, so even if you have a look inside the computer you will see how beautifully the internals are constructed.
Microsoft is not so behind.. Microsoft’s Surface Studio PC also has won a lot of acclaim for innovating design. Both the Surface Pro 4 tablet and Surface Book laptop are appealing to your eyes.
2.The price of Macs is usually higher than Windows PC
Usually Macs tend to be more expensive than Windows, even if the specifications are more or less the same. Windows superfans call this the “Apple tax.” Exceptions like the Surface Book or high-end gaming PCs aside, an average Windows laptop costs around $500. For comparison, the lightweight MacBook Air laptop is currently Apple’s cheapest, starting at $999.
3.Windows is better for hardcore PC gamers
Gamers do prefer Windows due to the fact they are more customizable. Gamers are totally obsessed about the graphic cards, memory and always spend extra for new hardware to stay on top. While it is almost impossible to upgrade Mac. Most important of all, while Mac is more of a gaming platform than ever, it still can’t match the depth and breadth of the game selection for the Windows PC — a legacy stretching back to the ’90s.
4.When it comes to customers support – Mac is better
Whenever you have a trouble with your Mac you can simply book an appointment and bring it to the local Apple Store. Even if the problem can’t be fixed in one session, usually there is no extra charge applied.
Microsoft on the other hand has its retail stores where the computer service is usually great. The problem is that the company doesn’t produce all of the computers it sells, so sometimes they have to send it back to manufacturer to repair.
5.Mac is safer against viruses, malware and other hack tricks
Since there are still far fewer Macs than Windows PCs out there, Apple’s platform simply presents a smaller target for attackers. In other words, a hacker can attack more computers with less effort by targeting Windows. Mac’s operating system is built on Unix which is already secure by default than Windows.
6.Two operating systems are totally different
Microsoft Windows 10 and Apple’s macOS look completely different from one another. Apple macOS has a cleaner look, which is easy to navigate. Windows however tried to combine user-friendliness of Windows 7 with touchscreen feature of Windows 8 in the new Windows 10 which basically works pretty well.
7.PCs have a wider choice
Apple makes both the Mac hardware and the macOS software. So if you want a Mac, you need to go through Apple. While there are plenty of PC manufacturers who can offer customer a wide range of options and brands to choose from.
8.An increasing number of Windows computers come with touch screens
The whole topic started from Windows 8, and Microsoft keeps pushing the touchscreen making it better every time. While Apple Macbooks and desktops still don’t have a touchscreen and might not have them in future at all.
9.Windows runs on tablets as well
If you use Windows 10, it can be applied on all devices, starting from laptops and finishing with tablets, while macOS is available only for Apple’s laptops and desktops.
10.If you wish to switch you will need to get used to new keyboard shortcuts
Seems to be so easy but it will be the biggest obstacle ever. Even if you want to take a screenshot on Windows, it will require different command than on Mac.
11.Macs and iPhone are the best team
Just because Apple makes both the iPhone and the Mac. So you can easily sync your iPhone with Mac and transfer the messages through the in built messenger. You can even send answers through mac. Windows 10 doesn’t get any of that. But if you install the Microsoft Cortana app on an Android phone, you can use your Windows 10 PC or tablet to send text messages from your own phone number.
Macs can run Windows!
Those willing to bring two in one, can use Mac but run Windows system through a virtual machine or straight on the system. Every Mac has a built-in program called Boot Camp that lets you install Windows on your machine. You can even divide the space on your hard drive and run two operations systems on one computer! Sounds like a great deal!
