The long awaited strange bus, which is officially called Transit Elevated Bus has just debuted on the roads of China and the designers put all their hopes that this kind of vehicle will ease congestion in major Chinese cities. As this bus holds up to 300 passengers and can move above the busy traffic while being the 72 feet long, 16 feet tall vehicle.
The cars beneath have around seven feet of space to move through. When the project will be totally completed, the vehicle will be able to hold 1.200 passengers and speed up to 40 miles per hour.
The final test took place in the 300 meter long track in the northeastern city of Qinhuangdao, Hebei province. The vehicle was moving very slow, devoid of turns, stop lights and general human activity -the test passed perfectly fine with no hitch.
Besides making the roads less overloaded, the vehicle is believed to be a cost effective way for China to manage the growing population and provide cleaner future for its citizens.
The project engineer Song Youzhou says that the TEB is powered by electricity only and will replace around 40 regular buses, which as a result will save 800 tons of fuel. Plus, to change the infrastructure for the TBE to be totally implemented will cost anyway cheaper than building a subway and will take only one year to be completed.
So far the TBA is projected for the outside cities and there are already five towns which signed a contract with pilot project and it is expected that the TEBs will be in use by the end of this year already.
