”Somebody once told me the definition of hell: On your last day on earth, the person you became will meet the person you could have become.” — Anonymous
It is important that you adopt a lot of good habits to be successful in chasing your dreams. At the same time, being successful is like barter, you have to let go of certain bad habits as well.
There are certain things that are universal, which, if you give up on them, you will be successful, even though each one of us could have a different definition of success.
Some of them you can give up today, while it might take a bit longer for others.
Give up on the unhealthy lifestyle
In order to achieve something in your life, you should start with your body first. Before starting to take care of other aspects in your life, take care of your health first. To begin with start with a healthy diet and working out. They might look like small steps, which will be rewarded later on.
Give up short-term mindset
Successful people never think short term, they always set long term goals which will be achieved through the short term habits and plans, that have to be maintained every single day. These healthy habits shouldn’t be something you do; they should be something you are. There is a difference between: “Working out to have summer body” and “Working out because that’s who you are.”
Give up playing small
You will never manage to release your full potential if you never try to take big opportunities and bold dreams. Don’t be afraid to voice your ideas, to make mistakes, to fail and of course don’t be scared to succeed.
Give up the excuses
Successful people never put the responsibility and guilt on somebody else. They are aware that it is them who are responsible for actions in life, no matter where they started from. It can be a bit frightening and exciting at the same time, but this is the only way to reach success.
Forget about fixed mindset
In a fixed mindset, people believe that their intelligence and talents are fixed traits. Thus, so this line of logic goes, talent alone creates success — without effort. This is a wrong way to think and successful people are aware of it. Instead of assuming talent will automatically create opportunities, successful people invest an immense amount of time developing a growth mindset, acquiring new knowledge, and learning new skills.
Don’t believe in the magic bullet
There is no such a thing as overnight success -it is a brutal myth.
Successful people know that small improvements done every single day will be rewarded over the time and will bring them to desired results. Therefore it is important to always plan for the future but focus on the day that is ahead of you.
Give up your perfectionism
There will be nothing perfect, no matter how hard yo try. It is a law of life. Fear of failure (or even fear of success) often prevents us from taking action, and putting our creation out there in the world. But a lot of opportunities will be lost if we wait for things to be right.
Give up multitasking
It is one of the essential points, making many things at the same time will leave you with nothing. That’s why successful people choose one thing and beat it until they accomplish it. This doesn’t mean that you can’t start and complete multiple tasks overall. But fully present and committed to one task at a time is indispensable.
You don’t have to control everything
Try to detach the things you can’t control and focus on those you can. Everyone needs a reminder that sometimes, the only thing you will be able to control is your own attitude. This isn’t always a fun realization, but it’s an important one.
Don’t say “yes”to things that don’t support your goals
In order to achieve your goal you will have to say “No” sometimes. And this no will concern certain tasks, activities, friend’s requests and colleagues.
Get rid of toxic people
The people we spend the most time with help mold us into our future selves. That’s why surround yourself with those people who make you better, in both professional and personal life. Don’t waste your time on those who drag you down and weaken your belief and potential.
Give up your need to be liked
Think of yourself as a market niche. There will be plenty of people who appreciate that niche, and there will be individuals who don’t. No matter what you do, you won’t be able to make an entire market like you, so stop trying to market yourself for mass appeal.
Stop depending on social media and TV
Impulsive web browsing and television watching is a modern societal disease. These two should never be an escape from your life or your goals. Unless your goals are quite dependable on one of these niches. However you still need to minimize the time spending and dependency on them, and focus on things that will bring use to your life.
