It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.
Humans have survived on this planet since ages. Making their ways out of famines, droughts, and other natural calamities, people have evolved with time. Humans are undoubtedly the most advanced species found on the planet Earth, and thus, have been able to pull through all these. But can you imagine an event that can wipe out the humanity in one go? Here are some possible scenarios:
1 – Alien Disease
Imagine you hear a news of a small comet crash in a place nearby, and the next morning you go to work to find your co-workers all sick. After some time you fall sick too, and you find, out that the comet had an incredibly infectious airborne alien virus and it’s spread too far to contain. Whether it is possible or not, if any such thing happens, we won’t have the immunity towards it. A devastating case was when Europeans first came over to North America with a disease, and 95% of the Native Americans were wiped out.
2 – Chlorine Poisoning from Diatom Evolution
What if suddenly you come across a message, to put a gas mask on and seal up your house with duct tape as it turns out that diatoms, are polluting the air with deadly chlorine gas. They split hydrogen and oxygen and release oxygen in air. But now they are taking salt in the ocean and releasing chlorine gas causing your eyes and mouth to burn. According to Cal Tech’s Joe Kirschvink, a geobiologist, this scenario is possible, but unlikely.
3 – Alien Invasion
Watching from afar, extraterrestrial beings might view changes in Earth’s atmosphere as symptomatic of a civilisation growing out of control – and take drastic action to keep us from becoming a more serious threat, the researchers explain.
This highly speculative scenario is one of several described by a Nasa-affiliated scientist and colleagues at Pennsylvania State University that, while considered unlikely, they say could play out were humans and alien life to make contact at some point in the future.
4 – Strange Matter
Everyone known about doomsday but no one has witnessed. Apparently, it would take only a few seconds for a single particle of strange matter, to wipe off the life on Earth. According to tests done in Brookhaven National Laboratory’s Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider in Long Island, it would take one negatively charged strangelet to start a chain reaction and end the world.
5 – Evolution
It’s the year 2077, and your are probably the last human left on this planet because everybody else has evolved and uploading their minds on a computer file Existence 2.0. It would be a different experience, to live without pain, worries, and thoughts, but with that, the physical bodies will be given up, and people will be robots. Apparently according to futurist Ray Kurzweil, by 2045, computers will become smarter than humans.
6 – Artificial Intelligence
Smart phones are a thing of today, but in 2050, it will be all about smart homes, where the robots will do all your work. In case of a system failure, there is a possibility of your getting locked in your own house, a self driven car rushing towards you, or a drone controlled by artificial intelligence, firing a missile at you. Apparently, Googles AI division are building a “Kill switch” for protection.
7 – Passing Rogue Planet
A rouge planet, passing by and not colliding with Earth, but might alter Jupiter’s orbit, will in turn alter the Earth’s orbit as well, because Jupiter is one of the reasons to keep this planet in its orbit. If the orbit is altered, the summers will be too hot and the winters will be too cold, resulting in extinction of life. According to researchers, there are 200 billion rouge or free moving planets in this universe. Moreover, there are threats from planets colliding with Earth, from our own solar system as well.
8 – Gamma Ray Burst
A star dies and becomes a black hole, some 7000 light years away, and the Gamma Ray is produced, which widens larger than our solar system by the time it reaches Earth. Your cell phones could go off, the ozone layer could be damaged because of which, there could be droughts, famines, and extinction of life. This scenario is very much possible, in fact researchers claim that it has happened 440 million years ago. Apparently Gamma rays from the space are worse than the ones released in Nuclear explosions.
9 – Asteroid
An asteroid smashes into an ocean and the water and pulverised rock fly in the atmosphere, making the Earth a boiler, by raising the temperature to 2,700 F. This causes fire and the humanity is wiped off. Apparently this scenario was the cause of the extinction of dinosaurs. University of Colorado scientist Brian Soon says that an asteroid that is 60 miles wide would easily do this job.
10 – Weaponized Smallpox Attack
You get hit by Smallpox and as you lay wondering how it was eradicated back in 1979, you get to know it is some eco-terrorists, and they genetically modified it to make it more resistant to vaccines and much more contagious. Outside of your house, much of the world is suffering a similar fate and it turns out that it was a rare form of smallpox called Flat variola major, which is almost always fatal.
