The largest monument ever constructed lays beneath the floors of great Aztec city of Cholulu. Experts suggest it was built thousands of years before Spanish conquest and already overgrown with vegetation. Herman Cortez who invaded the pyramid’s hometown in 1519 had missed it and built a tiny church on top of a massive hill. The world’s largest pyramid wasn’t rediscovered until 1910.
Cholulu was one of the most important cities in the Aztec Empire, incredibly sacred place, some researchers say it was home to about 100,000 people.
